DMT and 5-MeO-DMT

What it is

Two different compounds. N,N-DMT is the molecule in ayahuasca. 5-MeO-DMT (“toad” or synthetic) is shorter (often 15–40 minutes) and a different experience.

Evidence

Two different compounds. N,N-DMT is the molecule in ayahuasca. 5-MeO-DMT is shorter and a different experience. PTSD data as a standalone U.S. protocol is thin. 5-MeO appears in observational SOF series, often paired with ibogaine. DoD research language has listed 5-MeO as a possible active-duty trial compound — funding for studies, not a clinic.

Access for veterans

No legal U.S. walk-in DMT clinic. Colorado decriminalized possession of N,N-DMT; that is not licensed therapy. 5-MeO is not in state psilocybin programs.

Cautions

Blood pressure, heart, psychosis history. Trials are not legal treatment.
